THE EDWALTON PARISH CHURCH OF THE HOLY ROOD

welcoming young and old into the Lord's family, proclaiming the Gospel and serving the Community.
This describes our 12th Century Church at the start of the 21st Century; it has its foundations embedded in the Good News of Jesus, with worship that ranges from the traditional Book of Common Prayer through to the modern Common Worship; thus it caters for everyone whatever their Christian upbringing and experience, from the mature Christian to the very young (and their families).

 

We welcome you to any of our Sunday services,

Peter W. Wenham, MA, MD, FRCS....

in a service at Holy Rood Church
on Wednesday, 9th May 2007

Peter ...

grew up in the Bristol area, attending Clifton College, after which he spent a year working with the Anglican Church in Iran. 
He then studied Medical Sciences at Pembroke College, Cambridge, and Clinical Medicine at St Thomas' Hospital Medical School, London. 
After four years of training in Nottingham and Bristol, he returned to Nottingham
where in due course he was appointed Consultant Surgeon in 1989.

In his early years he was involved in pioneering research work in vascular surgery,
co-authoring some 70 scientific papers,
teaching students and managing teams. 
In 1998 he became Director of General Surgery, retiring from the NHS in 2006.

Having previously completed an Ordination Training course at St John's College,
he was ordained Deacon in Southwell in 2001. 
Peter and his family have worshipped at St Mary's Church, Wollaton Park
for about 30 years, including 6 years as Churchwarden.

In 1972, Peter married Christine, a teacher, and they have a daughter and two sons,
all married. Christine is an active governor at Bluecoat School, and together they have run house groups and been involved in various ways with people of all ages.

Among his hobbies, Peter includes gardening, travel, his grandchildren,
medical ethics, relations with the Islamic world,
and admits to having sung with the Nottingham Bach Choir.
