The Church Hall was originally built in 1964 on land that the Church had acquired on Vicarage Green, Edwalton and it has been used by the Church and the wider Community more or less on a continuous basis ever since. The prefabricated building was assumed to have a life of 25 years; it has outlived that time by a further 14 years due to the diligent care and attention of the successive caretakers and volunteers and a major refurbishment in 2003. The Church Hall is not located adjacent to the Church but is situated a short distance away, and is available for hire for various functions for up to around 200 people, with music up to 11.00 pm. The facilities consist of a stage with lighting and curtains; a kitchen with hot and cold water, crockery and cutlery, toilets, a smaller meeting room/changing room, and tables and chairs, and the Church Hall is heated. Limited car parking on site is available. Alcoholic drinks may be consumed on the premises but not sold in any way unless a licence is obtained at the users expense. The regular weekly users of the Church Hall include the Boys’ Brigade, Brownies, a pre-school nursery, and various life style parties such as Weight Watchers. Jumble sales, fairs and sales, parties are regularly held throughout the year. The Edwalton Drama Group put on 2 –3 plays per year including the ever-popular winter panto! Further information on bookings can be obtained from the Church Hall Bookings Secretary by letter, telephone or The Vicar David Bignell , at a Coffee Morning held on Saturday 11th October 2003 ‘officially’ opened the restored Church Hall with prayers of thanks. In attendance were representatives of the main contractors, T Kieran and Son; the architect Mr Reg Jefferies; David the plumber and Mr John Wrigley Edwalton Church Project Chairman During this Coffee Morning members of the various ‘user’ groups held displays and presentations and raised extra funds from the sale of cakes, books, souvenirs and ploughman’s lunch, that have gone towards the restoration fund. The restoration work included: * Re-felting of the roof The staff of the Pre-School Group undertook the redecoration of the ‘Club Room’ that they use on a regular weekly basis. The Church looks forward to continuing good use being made of the facilities. by letter, telephone HeadingGardening Club The previously uncultivated piece of rough ‘agricultural’ land between the church yard and the golf course began development following the Church Extension in 1996. All the work, (apart from the levelling which has done by the contractors) was carried out by the parishioners who formed a Gardening Club, who continue to develop and maintain the Garden which has now developed into a mature garden. Many permanent features, including several seats, a stone statue, gazebo and numerous trees and shrubs have been given in memory of loved ones. An illustrated guide describing the various plants will lead you through the Prayer Walk and also past the living willow Easter Tomb. This is an ideal place for wedding photographs as well as a tranquil area for all to enjoy as it is freely open every day. The garden is tended every Saturday morning, weather permitting, between 10.00am and noon, by a dedicated group of volunteers. Any addition to this group would be warmly welcomed – no experience needed. In the photogallery you may find some pictures of the churchgarden.. The Church has a peal of 6 bells, and a team of bell ringers meet regularly to practice. The bells are normally rung at the Sunday Services, and at weddings (and others) by prior arrangement with the Vicar. In the photogallery you may find some more pictures of the bellriging Drama Group: Edwalton Church Drama Group staged its first pantomime in 1965 and has continued the tradition ever since. This year is no exception. The group meets every Monday evening The group also has an active social calendar which includes The group consists mainly of adults but during the pantomime we recruit local youngsters who, we hope, will become our future adult performers. Musical expressionEdwalton Church Choir:... There is a strong Choir (adult and junior) who meet for choir practice during the week, and usually sing at the evening services, Choral Communion, Easter and Christmas Services and other special occasions.
We are very proud to have a choral tradition within the Church which goes back at least 80 years. The Choir leads our Evensong at 6.30pm with Choral Communion every third Sunday, when the Youth section is encouraged to join the adults. Likewise we would welcome new children into the Youth section, where they are schooled very capably by Graham Smith in many varied styles of Church music. Musicgroup:
